Cardiology in MAVJAT looks after adults and children with many forms of heart and blood vessel problems. Patients who are critically ill, very sick, will be admitted to the Coronary Care Unit. This makes it quick and easy for sick patients with heart problems to get medical care.
There are two modern cardiac catheterization laboratories. In the cardiac catheterisation laboratories, often just called the cath labs they do invasive tests and invasive procedures.
Invasive tests involve putting needles, wires or tubes into the body.
Urology is a surgical super specialty dealing with ailments of genital & urinary system in male and female. It is one of the most varied branches of surgery, encompassing diseases of kidneys, bladder and prostate to include incontinence, impotence, infertility, cancer and reconstruction of the genito-urinary tract and encompasses patients of both sexes and all ages.
Over the last 20 years, urology has become one of the most innovative surgical specialties. Urologists use traditional surgical methods, but have also pioneered the most modern high-tech, fibreoptic and endoscopic techniques (sometimes called minimally-invasive surgery). Urology is one of the first specialties to use “keyhole” surgery and still retains the most comprehensive array of minimally-invasive techniques for patients. The doctors here at Mavjat Hospital are leaders in handling all urological conditions such as stone disease, birth defects, infections, tumors, obstruction of the urinary system, prostate enlargement, infertility, erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, kidney transplantation, etc.
We are one of the few centres in the country which offers highly specialised tests such as video urodynamics for patients with neurological disorders and template prostate biopsy for patients with suspected prostate cancer who have had repeated negative prostate biopsies.
With the advent of LASER technology the treatment of stone and prostate disease has evolved tremendously, at our institute both rigid and flexible (also called retro grade intra renal surgery) ureteroscopy is available for effective management of ureteric and kidney stones. Holmium LASER enucleation of prostate is the only laser technology across the globe which has stood the test of time and this is offered to patients with large prostates where conventional endoscopic surgery may not be feasible and we are one of the few centres in South India to offer this treatment.
The unit has a very well established Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy Programme, wherein a minimally invasive approach is used to extract the donor kidney allowing for early recovery of the donor with minimal morbidity. The renal transplant programme is run as a large dedicated multi-disciplinary team involving the urologists, nephrologists, specialised nephrology transplant nurses and in-house transplant co-ordinator. The role of our coordinator brings together the psychological and legal aspects of kidney donation. We were one of the first unit’s to introduce steroid-free immuno-suppression in transplant patients, thereby significantly reducing the risk of steroid-induced infective complications.
A neurologist is a medical doctor with specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system. Pediatric neurologists are doctors with specialized training in children’s neurological disorders.
A neurologist’s educational background and medical training includes an undergraduate degree, four years of medical school, a one-year internship and three years of specialized training. Many neurologists also have additional training in one area of neurology such as stroke, epilepsy or movement disorders.
Neurologists are principal care providers or consultants to other physicians. When a patient has a neurological disorder that requires frequent care, a neurologist is often the principal care provider. Patients with disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease or multiple sclerosis may use a neurologist as their principal care physician.
In a consulting role, a neurologist will diagnosis and treat a neurological disorder and then advise the primary care physician managing the patient’s overall health. For example, a neurologist would act in a consulting role for conditions such as stroke, concussion or headache.
Neurologists can recommend surgical treatment, but do not perform surgery. When treatment includes surgery, neurologists will monitor surgically treated patients and supervise their continuing treatment. Neurosurgeons are medical doctors who specialize in performing surgical treatments of the brain or nervous system.
A Gastroenterologist is a physician with dedicated training and unique experience in the management of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. What is Gastroenterology? Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. It involves a detailed understanding of the normal action (physiology) of the gastrointestinal organs including the movement of material through the stomach and intestine (motility), the digestion and absorption of nutrients into the body, removal of waste from the system, and the function of the liver as a digestive organ. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis. In essence, all normal activity and disease of the digestive organs are part of the study of Gastroenterology.
General surgery department comprises of highly experienced senior surgeons and competent staff. Here we focus mainly on abdomen, breast, thyroid gland and hernias. Operations of the esophagus, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder, bile duct are done with key-hole technology. To the maximum extent possible we believe in using laparoscopic surgical techniques since the benefits are many including smaller incisions, less post-operative discomfort, quicker recovery, shorter hospital stay, faster return to full activity and minimal scars.
We believe that a good surgeon is a "craftsman" first and next a patient’s confidant who takes charge of the entire planning process, starting with diagnosis, surgery and ending with good post operative care.
A centre of excellence for various general surgical procedures including GI Surgery & Laparoscopic Surgery, Bariatric Surgery including Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass Surgery, Laparoscopic Appendectomy and other surgeries, Diagnostic Laparoscopy, General Surgery including cyst removals, incision & drainage of abscesses, abdominal surgery, advanced haemorrhoidal surgery, advanced hernia repair & hydrocele surgery (adult and paediatric), gallbladder surgery the centre uses latest technology.
General Surgery Department often collaborates with other departments to do surgeries that need more than one kind of speciality. General surgeons work with specialists in hepato-biliary, pancreatic and colorectal surgery, venaes and arterial surgery, breast and endocrine surgery.
Critical Care medicine is of vital importance for a healthy nation. This speciality will certainly reduce the mortality by providing early and appropriate life saving interventions to all critically ill patients.
We offer 24/7 care to patients in potentially life-threatening conditions who need continuous monitoring to be carried out by a multidisciplinary team. Such situations arise in case of haemodynamic instability (hypertension/ hypotension), airway or respiratory compromise (such as ventilator support), acute renal failure, potentially lethal cardiac arrhythmias, the cumulative effects of multiple organ system failure, or even in the crucial hours after major surgeries when the patient is deemed too unstable to transfer to a less intensively monitored unit.

Medical emergencies are increasing at an exponential rate every day. Every Indian hospital encounters an increasing number of acute cases in the form of Trauma, Medical, Surgical, Gynaecological and Paediatric emergencies and hence the need for adequate resources which include a well equipped and sophisticated emergency room with agile doctors, paramedics and staff nurse versatile in dealing with all sorts of emergencies.
Emergency Care does not begin and end in the emergency room because emergencies may arise anywhere and everywhere and hence the need for coverage from pre-hospital care till the patient’s transfer to definitive care is the ICU. We provide 24/7 services and critical care area is managed by highly qualified consultants with DM & Fellowship in Critical Care.
Internal Medicine is the speciality dealing with prevention, diagnosis & treatment of adult diseases.
Department of Internal Medicine is geared to provide comprehensive preventive, diagnostic & curative medical services for all patients. The department effectively delivers most recent diagnostic & therapeutic advances rationally to a large number of patients daily.

Most cancers are preventable if detected early. High-risk habits such as smoking and drinking are contributing factors for cancer. It can also be due to some other factors such as obesity that tend to run in families and influence cancer risk. Some cancers such as breast, ovarian, prostrate and colon are considered hereditary. These high-risk individuals can be identified by clinical evaluation and genetic tests. Targeted screening can identify cancer at pre-cancer or early stage. Besides improving chance for cure it also lowers the side effects related to cancer treatment. Hence, screening needs to be personalised based on clinical examination.
Radiology is a specialty of medicine that uses ionizing and nonionizing radiation for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Radiology uses imaging technologies, such as X-ray radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and positron emission tomography (PET) to see within the human body in order to diagnose disease and abnormalities.
Imaging means creating a picture of the inner configuration of a dense object, which in radiology usually means a part of the human body with the use of radiation.
